Oh, Valentine’s Day. Nothing like desperation+loneliness+dark chocolate to make me run to the blog, seeking consolation in an otherwise cruel, soulless, love-obsessed world. Hey guys, how’s it going? Happy Valentine’s Day! It’s been a while!

Here are a few figure gestures I didn’t get around to posting last semester.

I’ll be back to business as usual pretty soon. PROMISE.

*I’m only about 1/3 as bitter about Valentine’s Day as you think. I even told someone “Happy Valentine’s Day!” without subsequently wishing them bodily harm. There is hope!

Here are some more figure sculpture assignments from class. I can tell it’s getting easier? That may be an overstatement, let me try again. I now know what I will do wrong when I begin a sculpture. There. That’s more accurate.

I would apologize for the cell phone picture, but really it’s part of my secret plan to keep you from looking too closely at the flaws. Disproportionate? BAD PICTURE QUALITY. Sloppily executed? BAD PICTURE QUALITY.

Okay I’m going to try my best not to ramble. I’m so tired I almost fell asleep with my eyes open and dropped my latte. SACRILEGE.

Here is official documentation of one of my first figure sculpture attempts:

Underwhelming? Just you wait ’till the end of the semester. This?

Child’s play.

I just came back from a minor league baseball game (We won. Also, I purchased two coffees and some GREASY-AS-SIN garlic fries. I regret two of those purchases, you can take a guess at which ones. Hint #1: the fries.) and I decided to write up a quick blog post while the drawings of the day are still fresh in my mind.

First: a gesture of the catcher. I would post more but this is the only one you can tell is human. It’s hard to draw so much action!

Second: Today I decided to use India Ink in class again. Here are two of the more successful ones.

I’m noticing some things about myself lately. For example, I’m very impatient. I can draw meticulous detail for hours as long as I can make steady progress on it. When I have to wait for something to dry, I can’t leave well enough alone, as was the case today. I ruined a couple of drawings because I kept messing with it. Oh well, something to work on for next time.

P.S. I was trying all different ways of playing off the word “ink” in the title of this blog but each one got progressively more obnoxious so I spared us all the aggravation.

P.P.S. Pardon me while I go stare at the ceiling and try to bore myself to sleep. Hint #2: the second coffee.
